RainbirdGEO Invited to AfriGEO Symposium in Dakar, Senegal, Receives Acclaim for Early Warning System Technology and Implementation Cases Using Meteorological Satellites

October 6 to October 12, 2025

Yong-Sang Choi, CEO of RainbirdGEO, and Da-eun Lee, PM, were invited by the Secretariat of the African Group on Earth Observation (AfriGEO) to attend a symposium held in Dakar, Senegal, from October 6 to October 12.

AfriGEO organized the symposium to effectively connect geospatial technology and Earth observation data with policy and development across the African continent, aiming to create tangible impacts on disaster and calamity response. The event served as a platform to introduce RainbirdGEO, which is known for its effective and active presence in the Asia-Pacific region, to various African nations.

In his presentation at the symposium, RainbirdGEO CEO Yong-Sang Choi introduced the Early Warning System projects currently underway in the Asia-Pacific region using Korean meteorological satellites. He further demonstrated that similar projects are feasible using European meteorological satellites which cover the African continent.

During the symposium, CEO Choi signed an MOU with the AfriGEO Secretariat to ensure close mutual cooperation. He also discussed projects concerning agricultural yield forecasting and drought and flood risk warnings with the Somali government, and held extensive consultations on the aerospace industry with Nigerian government officials.

RainbirdGEO is currently executing projects using European satellites, such as predicting corn planting and harvesting seasons in Tanzania, and tracking the migration status of major Ethiopian coffee production areas due to climate change. With its participation in the AfriGEO symposium, the company anticipates a rapid expansion of its satellite-related projects across Africa.
