RainbirdGEO Co-Hosts Workshop with ADB, UNDRR, and EAKPF on Heatwave Response for Developing Countries

August 12–14, 2025, Incheon Songdo & Seoul Metropolitan Area

RainbirdGEO, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction Global Education and Training Institute (UNDRR GETI), successfully co-hosted a workshop on heatwave early warning and gender-responsive actions from August 12 to 14. The event, held across Incheon Songdo and the Seoul metropolitan area, saw the participation of over 50 experts from developing countries.

Supported by the Republic of Korea’s e-Asia and Knowledge Partnership Fund (EAKPF), the event gathered officials from six Developing Member Countries (DMC) to discuss the design of gender-responsive Early Warning Systems (EWS), new technologies, and the specific needs and leadership roles of women in preparing for extreme heat. Participants in the seminar expressed significant interest in the heatwave analysis information derived from meteorological satellites, presented by Yong-Sang Choi, CEO of RainbirdGEO, and the customized application used to deliver this information to end-users.

The program featured high-level addresses and panel discussions involving representatives from the Korean government, development partners, and academia, alongside comprehensive site visit programs. Over 50 participants engaged in these activities, visiting key locations in Incheon and Seoul to share insights on the development of Early Warning Systems, advancements in digital forecasting technology, and urban heatwave response strategies through timely, inclusive, and impact-based warnings.

On the final day, August 14, participants visited the Ewha University-Industry Collaboration Foundation Building, where the RainbirdGEO office is located. They attended a lecture on urban heatwave response and toured various facilities at Ewha Womans University.
